Analyst Real Team System (ARTS) provides a complete set of tools for modeling the various artifact types of system development. ARTS provides a uniform approach to modeling use cases, test cases, business rules, bugs, tasks, and more. The result is a unique and coherent framework for successful system development by anyone using the software.

ARTS package includes an award winning set of traceability tools. ARTS provides users with the ability to create links between artifacts. These links represent important system relationships. Traceability graphs provide a visual display of the links. The display also provides feedback on the direct and indirect impact of an artifact change.

ARTS enables automatic document generation with custom formatting that satisfies formal organizations documentation requirements.

ARTS is accessible by all team members regardless of physical location and it provides a full feature environment for team collaboration via its web access system.

Finally, ARTS provides configuration management tools that include user control groups, artifact locking, artifact deactivation, and the creation of project baselines that support incremental development.

ARTS is customizable for agile and non-agile processes. ARTS features help solve your system development problems. The major features are outlined below.

Artifact Modeling

Effective system development requires the tracking of multiple Artifact Types and their relationships. Examples of Artifact Types are Functional Requirements, Use Cases, Test Cases, Bug Reports, Tasks, Features, Actors, Business Rules, and Terms. Individual instances of an Artifact Type are Artifacts.

The centerpiece of ARTS is the ability to model any systems development process by defining your own artifact types and organizing them hierarchically.

For example, the artifact type test cases may have attributes Test-Id, Test-Status, Test-Description, etc. Views define the attribute set that characterizes an Artifact Type.

Analytical Processes: Traceability Matrix

A tabular display of importance is the Traceability Matrix. This is a two level display that has each Artifact at the top and all directly or indirectly related Artifacts beneath it. Note that direct links are the links that have been entered whereas indirect links are all links that can be created by tracing direct links from Artifact to Artifact. This can be thought of as the connected components created by the user defined links. For example, a use case step may be connected to a test case, a bug report, a system feature, a use case, and a task. The below mentioned tabular analysis tools are also available in the Traceability matrix. The use of filtering is especially important given the fact that linked sets can be quite large.

Analytical Processes: Tabular Displays

The primary reason for constructing the Artifact model above is to form the foundation for the application of ARTS analytical processes.

Tabular displays (and corresponding reports) use the hierarchies, attributes, and links to sort, filter, and group Artifacts. Graphical displays include node hierarchies, links, and Gantt charts.

Intelligent automated facilities include pick list generation based on known values of the attributes. This includes all known values, blank, non-blank, etc. Furthermore, attributes can be dragged and dropped to rapidly build presentation hierarchies. Finally, general purpose Boolean expressions are provided. All filters can be saved for later use and can be turned on and off quickly using a check box. Overall, the ease of use and intelligence of the tabular analysis facilities is one of ARTS greatest strengths.

Working Documentation

ARTS creates documentation at two levels. First, it provides working documentation that is needed for everyday use of the tool. Every display in the system has a print and print preview option that produces printed output of the data content of the display with all formatting preserved. All tabular displays use the same formatting facilities providing both consistency and ease of use. These reports and displays are the “bread and butter” of using ARTS.

Formal Documentation

Second, more formal system level documentation is provided. The hierarchies created for Artifacts are translated into the outline structure of these documents. Formatting options include a title page, table of contents, listing of attributes, embedded objects, graphics, and custom fonts. These documents provide information similar to that found in standard Software Requirement Specifications (SRS).

Project Control

ARTS is based on a database that contains one or more projects that share data in various ways. Within each project users and user groups are defined for the purpose of controlling access to project information.

Licensing

ARTS is available as personal, network and web editions. a. Web Edition: The web edition supports physically dispersed teams using an internet connection. b. Network Edition: The network edition is suitable for people working
