Collaborating with Code Co-op

As development demands increase, so does your need for a flexible and efficient version control system. You need to be confident that your software assets are tracked and secure and that you are kept up to date with project changes regardless of where you are.

Code Co-op was the first affordable peer-to-peer version control system for distributed teams to address these needs when introduced in 1997. Today, we are still leading the way in our unique approach to version control by enabling developers to collaborate on- and off-site using Email, LAN, and VPN – no server required.

Peer-to-peer Development

Code Co-op is a peer-to-peer system where each project member or peer has a complete copy of each project. Yes, this includes the project history. Code Co-op then ensures that each peer is in synch through the exchange of scripts.

Staying connected through Email, LAN, or VPN

Whether you are using Email, LAN, or VPN to connect to other project peers, Code Co-op makes it easy to stay synchronized. When a check-in is done, small packets of information containing only the changes are compressed and distributed to each project peer. If you are connected through LAN or VPN, the changes are copied over the network. If you are offsite, these changes are emailed to you for receipt through your POP3/SMTP email account or MAPI email client.

Use your existing infrastructure

Since Code Co-op is a peer-to-peer system, all you need is a computer to collaborate. You do not need a central server and the maintenance associated with this type of system. Keep in mind that you can install Code Co-op on a server to create a back-up or if you want to stage it for testing or publishing at no additional cost

Complete Code Co-op Project Access

Whether you are at the office, traveling, working from home, or at your favorite coffee shop, Code Co-op gives you complete access to your project.

No network, no problem

You can check out files, review or restore history and more all without a network connection. How is this possible? Code Co-op makes this possible by maintaining a secure copy of your projects on your computer. It is from this secure copy that you will check-out files and make your changes. Additionally, you can access your entire project history whether you need to review, restore, branch or save your project files at a previous state. Whatever you need to do, you can. The only time you need to be connected to your network or the internet is when you need to synch up with others. This enables you to develop anytime, anywhere.

Wiki Bug Database

With the release of version 5.0 Code Co-op includes an optional wiki bug database which you can then review and amend at any time.

Robust Control with Code Co-op

Fully Transacted Database

A secure project database is the backbone of every good version control system. Code Co-op uses a fully transactional database which ensures that your project code will not be compromised with partial check-ins. The entire check-in process has to be completed before the database is updated.

Automatic back-ups

Having additional back-ups of your project is a common precaution. Luckily, Code Co-op creates back-ups of your project automatically because each project member has a copy of the entire project and its history on their computer. An additional machine can be set-up to automatically synch with all projects at no additional cost.
