A PDF Component by TallComponents BV

TallPDF.NET V3.0.26.1

A PDF Component for .Net, ASP.Net

TallPDF.NET is a 100% managed .NET component for dynamically creating documents from scratch. This component is typically deployed as part of an ASP.NET application that generates dynamic PDF from a data source or user input. However, it is just as well possible to integrate TallPDF.NET in a desktop application. Central to TallPDF.NET is a highly intuitive object model consisting of classes like Document, Section, Paragraph, Table, Footer, etc.

You can create documents either programmatically of from XML. When generating PDF from XML, classes are represented by elements and properties by attributes or child elements. You typically write an XSL file to transate your own specific XML documents to our XML format. Using the non-cached forward-only characteristics of the XmlReader class, you can pipeline these steps and achieve extremely low memory consumption, completely independent of document size. This makes TallPDF.NET an excellent solution for generating both small and very large documents.

Almost one year ago, we introduced version 1.0 of TallPDF.NET - the first 100% .NET PDF generation component. We now release version 2.0 of this highly intuitive and productive component. This version builds further on version 1.0 and a massive amount of feedback from our customers resulting in an even more robust and more programmer-friendly component.

Event-Driven Generation Model
By far the most important addition to version 1.0 is the event-driven generation model. While the document is generated pages are flashed out as soon as possible. Consequently the memory consumption is limited to the resources of a single page. During generation events are generated of which the handlers provide the content. This generation can be used very efficient in combination with the forward-only non-cached XmlReader class or a ADO.NET forward-only database cursor.

Unicode TrueType Font Embedding
The 14 standard PDF fonts are limited to the Latin-1 character set. So in order to generate PDF documents beyond this set, you must embed a font such as a TrueType font. Fonts for large character sets can be numbers of megabytes. In order to minimize the size of the generated PDF document and still maintain full portability we embed only that part of the font that is absolutely necessary for correct display. After stripping all font tables that are not used by the PDF reader and omitting all glyphs that are not used, an extremely small document remains.
